Other people use Batocera for such set ups, but I find that operating system lacking when it comes to running windows games like Cyber Shadow. Since it runs Windows, I put a cheap keyboard and mouse so I can get stuff started. It also brings me a great amount of joy, because I love the feeling of sitting down at an arcade for a quick shmup or beat 'em up. I live in a very small place, so I built it to accommodate my living area. I'm only 5' 6", so the table I chose was based on my height, so keep that in mind! The monitor on the arm rotates for TATE mode shmups. I have a small stool with it so I can play seated. Sorry for lack of pics, but it's not that fancy lol. It runs BARELY up to Gamecube, so I can play Soul Calibur 2 and everything below. Then I attached a 24" Asus Tuf gaming monitor (with built in speakers) to this arm: Have to say though, I love the IDEA of having a 'proper' (albeit I suspect very emulated) arcade machine, though I think the novelty would wear off, and I simply don't have the space!Īdded an extra piece of wood to it so I could have the 8bitdo arcade stick at the ready. Also, for £500 you can get yourself a Switch (other consoles are available), a lovely 8bitdo arcade stick (or 2) and a heap of retro collections which cover most of the content offered here (alas, no Ms PacMan!).
I've played a few of the Arcade 1Up cabinets in Smyths - I think they were originally advertised as 3/4 size or something because they're not too comfortable to play on and shoulder to shoulder 2 player is uncomfortably close - I think these are the same sort of size (they certainly look the same as this ). I have the little My Arcade Galaga where I followed some instructions to make it play a bunch of the other games too: - but it's a novelty and little more.Īlmost tempted by the Namco Museum for £50, but having watched a review the screen isn't that great and controls aren't even that responsive, which is a shame.
